Checking Switch Kit

At Eastern Bank, we always make it easy for you to bank with us.

It all starts when you open a new Eastern Bank checking account. If you haven’t done so already, you can apply online using our online checking account application.

You can also call us at 1-800-EASTERN (1-800-327-8376) for fast, personal assistance, or visit any of our convenient Eastern Bank branches and one of our knowledgeable associates will help you choose the right checking account.

Follow these four simple steps and we’ll have your new checking account up and running in no time.

1
Sign up for direct deposit
2
Move transactions to your new account
3
Set up online banking
4
Close your old account

You will need Adobe Acrobat Reader to view the forms discussed below.
Download Acrobat Reader if you do not already have it.

1. Sign up for direct deposit.
Direct Deposit makes it possible for your paycheck, Social Security payments, government checks and pension to be directly deposited into your Eastern Bank account. It saves you time by cutting down on your trips to the bank, and usually makes your money available faster.

For Direct Deposit of a paycheck: simply fill out the Direct Deposit Form and submit it to your employer or any other organization concerned, along with a voided check from your new Eastern Account.

For Direct Deposit of Social Security checks: you’ll need to call the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 and notify them of your new checking account. Be prepared to provide them with the Eastern Bank routing number (0113-0179-8) and your new account number.

2. Move transactions to your new account.
If you’ve set up any automatic banking transactions, like utility, phone, mortgage payments or any other recurring deductions from your checking account, just contact the organizations involved and notify them of your new account. To make this easy, we've created an Authorization to Change Automatic Payment Form.

Handy information: Be sure to have the Eastern Bank routing number
(0113-0179-8) and your new account number. If you have any questions, we’re here to help you.

This is also a great time to start using online banking and bill payment, if you haven’t done so already. You’ll have to give up licking stamps and paying late fees, but we promise you won’t miss them.

3. Set up online banking.
Eastern HomeConnect – bank anywhere you have a secure Internet connection. HomeConnect allows you to securely view account balances and activity, pay bills, make transfers between your Eastern Bank accounts, receive alert messages and view front and back images of canceled checks. All for free!  Enroll online or call 1-800-EASTERN or visit any of our branches for more information.

4. Close your old account.
After you receive your last statement showing that all of your checks and automatic withdrawals have cleared (this may take several weeks), write yourself a check for the remaining balance. Then ask your bank to close your account. You should also destroy all remaining checks and ATM cards.

We can save you a trip to your former bank by notarizing and mailing a completed Authorization to Close Account Form for you. Just come into any Eastern Bank branch for assistance.

It’s our goal to make this transition as quick and easy as possible. If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to stop by your local branch or call us at 1-800-EASTERN (1-800-327-8376).

Thank you for choosing us, and welcome to Eastern Bank.
