Eastern Bank to Sponsor Brockton’s Concerts
in the Park Series

Sponsorship enables city to once again provide free concerts to its residents

BROCKTON, Mass., June 11, 2003 – Eastern Bank will sponsor the City of Brockton’s popular “Concerts in the Park” Series this summer, Mayor John T. Yunits, Jr. and Eastern Bank announced today.

Eastern Bank’s sponsorship makes it possible for the city to once again provide free concerts on Thursday nights at D.W. Field Park off Oak Street. The concerts had been in jeopardy, due to reductions in state aid to cities and towns.

“On behalf of everyone in Brockton, I would like to thank Eastern Bank for underwriting the cost of the summer concert series and demonstrating its support to the city,” Mayor Yunits said. “In these economic times, I would urge other corporations to step forward and support programs that contribute to the quality of life in Brockton and communities across Massachusetts.”

Renamed “The Eastern Bank Concerts in the Park,” the six-week series begins July 10th with “Old Kids on the Block.” The rest of the schedule is as follows: July 17th, Krisanthi Papas; July 24th, Sonny Watson; July 31st, Billy Couto; August 7th, the John Penny Band; and August 14th, Part Lovers. The concerts run from 6:30 to 8 p.m.

“Eastern Bank has a long history of supporting the communities it serves, through sponsorships, gifts from our foundation and volunteer efforts by our employees,” said Joe Bartolotta, public relations director at Eastern. “When Mayor Yunits asked us to support the concert series, we immediately agreed because we saw the need and we believe in his vision for Brockton.”

Founded in 1818, Eastern Bank is New England’s largest mutually-owned, independent commercial bank, with $4.5 billion in assets, $3 billion in commercial and consumer loans and 49 branches in Greater Boston, including 1300 Belmont Street in Brockton. Eastern has a full line of consumer, commercial and investment banking products.
