Eastern Bank Launches “Doug Flutie Sweepstakes” Winner gets early winter trip to sunny San Diego BOSTON, Mass., Sept. 29, 2003 – Open Doug Flutie’s locker, and you’re headed to San Diego for sun, fun and the football season finale between San Diego and Oakland on Dec. 28, 2003. That’s the offer presented to anyone who stops by an Eastern branch between now and Oct. 15, as Eastern kicks off its first promotion tied to the Doug Flutie endorsement deal announced earlier this month. Eastern branch visitors are invited to complete an entry form for a chance to become one of the finalists in the sweepstakes. Sweepstakes entry forms and rules are available at all participating Eastern branches. No purchase is necessary. One finalist will be selected from each branch. The finalists and their guests are then invited to The Rack, a popular downtown Boston pub, to watch football on Sunday afternoon November 9th. At halftime, each finalist will get a key. The key that opens Doug’s locker gets the prize, which includes airfare, hotel, two tickets to the Oakland-San Diego game, a rental car, and $500 spending money. The winner will also meet Flutie after the game. Arguably the most recognizable and respected athlete in New England, Doug Flutie won the Heisman Trophy while playing at Boston College in 1984. His pro career has included stints in both the National Football League and Canadian Football League. He’s now in his third season with San Diego.
