Eastern Sets Opening for New Branch in East Boston Shaws Supermarket office will be 48th branch, first in East Boston EAST BOSTON, Mass., March 31, 2003 Eastern Bank, a full-service commercial bank based in Boston, today announced plans to open its 48th branch and its first in East Boston on April 21. The new branch will be located inside Shaws Supermarket at 246 Border Street in East Boston, providing consumer products ranging from free checking to personal loans seven days a week. The branch will also have an ATM, which is already operational. Between our products and a nice location inside a busy, recently-remodeled supermarket, were excited about this opportunity, said Mark Primeau, executive vice president for consumer banking at Eastern. In particular, we feel free checking will be popular among our customers, because so few of our competitors in East Boston offer that product. Since Eastern began offering free checking in June 2000, more than 30,000 customers have opened one of these accounts. Free checkings benefits include no monthly minimum balance requirement, no monthly service charge, free unlimited check writing and a free Visa Check Card. The first order of checks is also free. The new East Boston office is Easterns fourth location in Boston. It is also the banks fourth supermarket location. With the opening of East Boston, Eastern will have nine offices in Greater Boston that are open seven days a week. Founded in 1818, Eastern Bank is New Englands largest mutually-owned, independent commercial bank, with $4.2 billion in assets, $3 billion in commercial and consumer loans and 47 branches in Greater Boston. Eastern has a full line of consumer, commercial and investment banking products.
