Charitable Foundation 

At Eastern Bank, we have been dedicated to staying true to our communities since 1818. Through our employee volunteers, sponsorships and Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation grants, we are committed to giving back.
Registered Users: Access Online Grant System 

The mission of the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation is to contribute, in a meaningful way, to the health and vitality of the various eastern Massachusetts communities served by Eastern Bank Corporation. This is done through financial support to selected nonprofit organizations operating within these communities.

In 2012, our Foundation will donate over $2.8 million to numerous eligible organizations across Eastern Massachusetts. To learn more about the grants our Charitable Foundation has made to eligible organizations, view our Charitable Foundation Annual Report.

 

Grants totaling $2,692,875 were made during 2011 to charitable organizations throughout Eastern Massachusetts. Our grants generally range in size from $50 to $50,000. While the types of organizations that receive support from the Foundation vary greatly, our grants for 2011 were concentrated in the following areas.

Below is information that will help guide you in applying for a grant from the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation.

Available Grants
Our Foundation accepts three types of grant requests as described in “Apply for a Grant”:
• Community Grants
• Partnership Grants
• Neighborhood Support

Please carefully read the grant descriptions to determine which type of grant is most appropriate for your request.

Application Instructions
• All applications must be submitted via our online application. We do not accept paper requests or Letters of Inquiry.  A tutorial of our online application system is available in two versions: print or online video.

• If you are a first-time user of our online system, you will need to register yourself as a new user.

• If you represent more than one organization, you must establish a separate user profile for each organization.  Also, each user profile must have a separate email address.

Grant Restrictions
Our Charitable Foundation will not make multi-year commitments regardless of the grant category.

Our Foundation accepts three types of grant requests: Community Grants, Partnership Grants and Neighborhood Support. Please read the descriptions below to determine which type of grant is most appropriate for your request.

DESCRIPTION


These grants are used for annual support, projects, program support and event sponsorships. 

DESCRIPTION

This category is used for significant program support, a specific project or a capital campaign.

DESCRIPTION

This program supports organizations within any community served by our bank that do not have 501(c)(3) designation. Typically this includes fundraisers, local youth-related activities, chamber of commerce events and other efforts that improve the fabric of our neighborhoods.

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

The organization:

- must have a 501(c)(3) designation

- cannot have an IRS subclassification of 509(a)(3)

- cannot be a private foundation

Your organization cannot have a 501(c)(3) IRS designation.  If it does, please apply for a Community or Partnership Grant. 

AMOUNTS AVAILABLE


There is a $10,000 maximum.

AMOUNTS AVAILABLE


These grants range from $10,000 to $50,000, with the majority of awarded grants in the $10,000 to $15,000 range.

Once awarded a Partnership Grant, your organization is ineligible to apply in this category for three years from the date of receipt of the grant.

There is no minimum or maximum dollar value for support in this category, but the average gift is $500.

SUBMISSION DEADLINES


Requests reviewed monthly.

Within 60 days of receiving your grant request, you will be notified of the committee's decision.

Requests must be submitted by
March 1 or September 1, with notification of the committee's decision being received by the end of May and November, respectively.
