Meet Our 2023 Honoree
Vanessa Calderón-Rosado
Chief Executive Officer, Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción (IBA)
Vanessa Calderón-Rosado has always been a fighter for racial equity and her two decades of service are punctuated by firsts and onlys in the areas of affordable housing, education, community engagement and policy.
As the CEO of IBA, she and her team have built the acclaimed community development corporation into the largest Latino-Led nonprofit organization in Eastern Massachusetts -- managing $250 million in assets and over 660 units of affordable housing, as well as developing and driving innovative wraparound services.
Vanessa became the first Latina to be appointed to the Massachusetts Board of Elementary and Secondary Education, is a founding board member of the Margarita Muñiz Academy, the first dual-language innovation high school in Massachusetts and is co-founder of the Greater Boston Latino Network whose members touch the lives of over 50,000 people. Helping shape policy, Vanessa serves as a member of Governor Healey’s Council on Latino Empowerment and is part of the Boston Foundation’s Latino Equity Fund Advisory Committee.
Vanessa operates from the unwavering belief that every family in Massachusetts wants the same thing … to give their children the best home, neighborhood, education, and set of opportunities they can.
About the Eastern Bank Foundation
To achieve a just, equitable and inclusive society, we believe individuals, families and communities who have been historically and systematically excluded from America’s prosperity need fundamental resources and opportunities to thrive.
We invest with community-led organizations to promote structural change that builds economic inclusion, mobility and social justice in four strategy areas -- advancing equity in the small business ecosystem, enriching early childhood development, securing safe and affordable housing and promoting workforce development.
Knowing the roots of social and economic injustice are as stubborn as they are old, we employ a variety of levers including Philanthropy, Employee Volunteerism, Advocacy, and Collaboration to lift-up and rise with our communities.
Each year, the Celebration of Social Justice honors an outstanding leader who, through their tireless dedication and passion, has made significant contributions to advance social justice in our communities.
