Meet Our 2024 Honoree

Jackie Jenkins-Scott

Recently finishing her role as Interim President at Roxbury Community College (RCC), Jackie helped underserved students prepare for high-growth careers and business ownership to spur economic inclusion and mobility.

She broke through barriers by becoming Wheelock College’s first African American President and during her 12-year tenure grew academic options and quality exponentially, as well as the enrollment of ethnically and differently-abled students by 40 percent.

As a determined champion and change-maker, Jackie spent 20 years at the helm of Roxbury’s Dimock Center. While maintaining a vital source for community healthcare, she took the organization from near-bankruptcy to a successful and sustainable benchmark institution for health and wrap around services like workforce development and affordable housing.

Jackie has been called upon by Governors and Mayors of the Commonwealth to help shape public policy, build equity, and improve education and served on many boards like the Boston Foundation, Kennedy Library Foundation and Museum, and the Tufts Health Plan. As a sought-after consultant, Jackie has helped countless leaders create and extend mission-based organizations and her book, The 7 Secrets of Responsive Leadership, shares her deeply respected approach with us all.

About the Eastern Bank Foundation

To achieve a just, equitable and inclusive society, we believe individuals, families and communities who have been historically and systematically excluded from America’s prosperity need fundamental resources and opportunities to thrive.

Celebrating 30 years in 2024, the Foundation supports community vibrancy, and invests in and collaborates with community-led organizations to promote structural change that builds economic inclusion, mobility, and social justice in four strategy areas -- advancing equity in the small business ecosystem, enriching early childhood development, securing safe and affordable housing and promoting workforce development.

Knowing the roots of social and economic injustice are as stubborn as they are old, we employ a variety of levers including Philanthropy, Employee Volunteerism, Advocacy, and Collaboration to rise with our communities.

Each year, the Celebration of Social Justice honors an outstanding leader who, through their dedication and passion, has made significant contributions to advance social justice in our communities.
