Community Donations

Girls Inc.

A Grassroots Focus

Each year, we support more than 1,500 local organizations providing a variety of vital services that matter to our communities. With grants ranging from $100 to $10,000, Community Donations are the largest part of our funding, amounting to millions of dollars each year. In addition, Eastern employees donate their time to many grant recipients as board members and volunteers, enhancing our understanding of needs in the cities and towns we serve. We listen and respond with support for programming and approaches that incorporate the lived experiences of those grounded in the issues and closest to the solutions and supporting the work of those who have devoted their life's work to helping people to prosper. Moving forward, we will deepen our Community Donations’ impact by remaining a reliable partner, and open to all.

Below are examples of the impact our Community Donations are having locally:

Seacoast Community Lunch

Seacoast Community Lunch is located in Portsmouth and serves southern New Hampshire, providing nourishing meals to those in need. Over the last couple of years, we have supported its work with Community Donations and in service with our employees volunteering regularly to serve lunch.

Gosnold has served Cape Cod, the Islands and Southeastern Massachusetts since 1972 with services for adults, adolescents and children affected by alcohol and/or drug addiction and mental/emotional disorders. Over the last several years, we have provided many Community Donations ranging in size and purpose for events and programs, and, in 2020, a Community Donation to support Gosnold’s COVID-19 related needs.

IBA – Inquilinos Boricuas en Acción

Since 1968, IBA has grown into a dynamic community development corporation serving Boston’s South End that cultivates and preserves culturally diverse affordable housing communities whose residents have opportunities to reach their full potential through strong programmatic offerings. The Eastern Bank Foundation has been providing support over the last several years and recently awarded a Community Donation for IBA's Festival Betances 2020: En Casa!

Family ACCESS of Newton

For over 100 years, Family ACCESS has been providing services to strengthen children, families and the community by providing programs that nurture child development, promote effective parenting skills and support working parents. It actively engages a racially, economically and culturally diverse population in Newton, Waltham, Framingham and surrounding communities, and focuses its services on low-income and immigrant families with young children and at-risk youth. The Eastern Bank Foundation has been providing various Community Donations for events and program support since 2005.

Family & Children's Service

Family & Children’s Service has been serving families in Greater Lynn as far back as 1885. The organization strengthens the life skills of families, children, and individuals of all ages by providing center-based and in-home programs in multiple languages to address specific needs. Our partnership dates back to 1989 with our first Community Donation. Over the years, we have supported in various ways, including through donations and serving on the Board of Directors. Recently, we awarded a Community Donation for general operations.

Asian American Civic Association (AACA)

Since 1967, AACA has empowered immigrants and economically disadvantaged individuals from Boston, Quincy, Malden, Revere, Newton, Cambridge, Winthrop, Somerville, Brookline and beyond with education, unique job training, and social services, enabling them to attain careers and thus a better self-sufficient future. The Eastern Bank Foundation has been supporting the AACA since 2006. Recently, we awarded a Community Donation in support of its 2020 Virtual Gala, "Their Courage to be New."
