Eastern Bank uses secure socket layer (SSL) encryption, an industry standard for online security. Encryption is a method of scrambling data using a mathematical formula so that it is unintelligible to anyone that may intercept it as it travels over the Internet. The encrypted data can only be unscrambled by the encryption software on Eastern Bank's computer and the web browser on your computer.
Before submitting your application, you will be given an opportunity to review the information you have provided, including your account selections and options. If you need to make changes, simply click on the "Edit" button for the information you would like to change and you will be permitted to change your input.
You'll be asked for your Social Security number and a valid form of identification. You will also need to provide personal information, including your date of birth and former mailing address(es). If you do not have this required information, you will not be able to open an account online. Please call 1-800-EASTERN (327-8376) or visit one of our branches for assistance.
You'll need the same information that's required when opening an individual account, but you'll need it for both applicants. For details, review the preceding question "What information do I need to open an account with Eastern Bank?". Please note that each applicant will need to sign the signature card.
Eastern Bank takes great pride in the safeguards we have established to protect customer information. As part of our security and privacy protection programs, and our compliance with Federal regulations, we must be able to confirm with certainty the identity of any individual opening an account.
A minimum deposit is required to open an account. The minimum opening deposit for an account will be identifed during enrollment on the Account Selection page.
Whether you instruct us to transfer funds from another account you own, including another Eastern Bank account, or you choose to make your opening deposit with your debit or credit card, your new Eastern Bank account will generally receive the funds on the third business day following the date the application is approved. The opening deposit will contain the identifier "NEW_ACCT" in the transaction description, allowing you to easily find it in your account activity.
You will be able to access your account on the first business day following the date your account application is processed. Our processing schedule is described below.
Approved applications received before 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday will be processed on the same business day.
Approved applications received after 8:00 p.m. Monday through Friday, or on a weekend day or holiday, will be processed the next business day.
