Eastern Bank employees raise $12,840 for the Lynn Salvation Army
LYNN, Mass., Dec. 18, 2007 – Eastern Bank announced today that its employees raised a company record-breaking $12,840 to benefit Lynn-area families in need this holiday season through the Salvation Army, in cooperation with the Item Santa.
The amount was part of a total $26,680—a new record number—raised by Eastern Bank employees throughout eastern Massachusetts and contributed by the company in the past month. Eastern is also presenting checks to Salvation Army offices in Quincy and Plymouth.
The bank’s Salvation Army fund-raising committee sponsored several employee events this season, including a bake sale, a “jeans day” in which the employees paid money to wear jeans to work, a pie auction, and drawings for theme gift baskets, sports tickets and memorabilia, a handmade afghan from an employee, and days off.
The bank contributed more than $5,980 to match the employees’ “theme gift basket” drawing. In addition, the bank earlier contributed $1,000 to the Salvation Army televised auction, bringing the total contribution from Eastern Bank to $26,680.
Prior to Thanksgiving, bank employees also held their first-ever, bank-wide food drive in all branches and offices, giving more than 90 boxes of food to three regional offices of the Salvation Army to help eastern Massachusetts families.
The $12,840 donation to the Lynn area was presented to Captain Marika Payton of the Salvation Army in Lynn on Tuesday, Dec. 18 at the bank’s Market Street operations center. The money was raised in cooperation with the Daily Item of Lynn’s Item Santa fund.
“Eastern Bank employees have been supporting us for years, and we continue to be grateful for and blessed by their generosity,” Payton said. “The Salvation Army assists many area families during the holiday season and throughout the year, and we rely on the valuable help of donors, volunteers and businesses like Eastern Bank to help us continue this vital mission. These people are the army behind the Army.”
The fundraising committee was co-led by Amy Budrow and Mary Ellen Browne, in Eastern Bank’s North Region, and Teresa Keyes, in Eastern Bank’s South Region.
