The merger between Century Bank and Eastern Bank creates the opportunity for two banks with a shared commitment to the communities we serve to come together. Eastern Bank is excited to welcome Century Bank customers to the Eastern Bank community and provide banking services that meet your needs, where and when you need them.
When will the conversion to Eastern Bank be complete?
The conversion to Eastern Bank is expected to be completed on Saturday, November 13. However, various conversion activities will take place Friday, November 12 through Sunday, November 14, 2021.
Will there be changes to Century Bank branch staff?
Nearly all Century Bank branch staff will be retained after the conversion to ensure we are meeting the needs of all our customers. You will continue to see and bank with many of the same familiar faces you’re used to seeing.
Will Century Bank branches stay open?
Some Century Bank branches will convert to Eastern Bank branches. Due to overlap in certain areas, some branches from each bank will close and be consolidated into a nearby branch under the Eastern brand name with increased offerings that include drive-up windows, more parking and community rooms. We are not exiting any city or town where our combined network currently operates and ultimately, customers will have even more locations from which to conduct their banking business.
Will Eastern Bank remain involved in the local community?
Yes. For more than 200 years, Eastern Bank has helped our communities to prosper. The Eastern Bank Foundation is one of the largest corporate foundations in our region and its active support of the community through grassroots grants each year to hundreds of local nonprofit organizations will continue. Will my account number stay the same?
Most account numbers are not changing. Please see your Account Summary for a listing of how your account(s) will transition to Eastern Bank following conversion weekend. If your account number is changing, a representative from Century Bank will contact you prior to the merger to work with you to change your account number.
What will happen to any direct deposit going into my current Century Bank account, including payroll, Social Security or other direct deposits?
Any direct deposits including payroll and social security that you currently have set up with Century Bank will automatically transition to your new Eastern Bank account.
What will happen to automatic payment settings I currently have established with Century Bank?
Any automatic payments that you currently have scheduled through Century Bank Bill Pay will transition to Eastern Bank. However, any recurring debit payments will not transfer and will need to be reestablished with Eastern Bank.
Will I receive a new ATM/debit card?
Yes. If you currently have a Century Bank ATM or Debit card you will receive an Eastern Bank ATM or Debit MasterCard®. New cards will be mailed to you the week of October 28, 2021 with instructions on when to activate them and when to start using them. Please refer to the What to Expect & When Guide for additional information.
Can I continue to use my Century Bank checks?
Yes, you will be able to continue to use your current Century Bank checks following the transition to Eastern Bank. If you would like to order new Eastern Bank checks, please call 1-800-EASTERN (327-8376) any time on or after Saturday, November 13, 2021.
Will my deposit accounts continue to be FDIC-insured?
The standard deposit insurance amount is $250,000 per depositor, per FDIC-insured bank, per ownership category. See FDIC.gov for more information

Keeping your information secure is our priority
As a reminder, Eastern Bank will never ask you to send confidential information such as your login ID, password, account number(s) or Social Security Number via email.
Additionally, you should never share this type of sensitive information with anyone via email or other electronic means, whether over the phone, via a mobile app or through social media.
Activate your new Eastern Bank ATM or Debit Mastercard® and use it for purchases and ATM withdrawals ONLY. Your PIN is the same as your current Century Bank Card PIN.
