Eastern Bank earns top marks in 2018 Corporate Equality Index

Eastern earns 100 percent on Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s 16th Annual Scorecard on LGBTQ Workplace Equality

BOSTON, November 9, 2017 – For a fifth consecutive year, Eastern Bank received a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index (CEI), a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to LGBTQ workplace equality, administered by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation.  Eastern joins the ranks of 609 major U.S. businesses which also earned top marks this year.

“Eastern Bank is proud of our legacy in supporting the LGBTQ community and honored to be recognized by the Human Rights Campaign for the fifth consecutive year,” said Nancy Stager, Executive Vice President, Human Resources & Charitable Giving at Eastern Bank.  “We support causes and legislation that ensure people are judged on their experience and qualifications, plain and simple.  From testifying at the State Houses in Massachusetts and New Hampshire, to helping to create a new LGBTQ Chamber of Commerce in Massachusetts, to advocating for the continued protection of rights for people who are Transgender, Eastern fully embraces and supports our LGBTQ colleagues and community and we remain deeply committed to ensuring our organization is welcoming and inclusive to all.”

The CEI evaluates companies on their LGBTQ-related policies and practices including non-discrimination workplace protections, domestic partner benefits, transgender-inclusive health care benefits, competency programs and public engagement with the LGBTQ community.  Eastern’s efforts in satisfying all of the CEI’s criteria results in a 100 percent ranking and the designation as a Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality.

The Human Rights Campaign Foundation is the educational arm of America's largest civil rights organization working to achieve equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual transgender and queer people.  HRC envisions a world where LGBTQ people are embraced as full members of society at home, at work and in every community.
