Eastern Bank Honors Marolí Licardié, M.Ed., Executive Director of Family & Children’s Service, with Community Advocacy Award

December 17, 2019

Her Leadership Has Helped Thousands Of Vulnerable Children and Families Build Stable, Productive, and Healthy Lives

BOSTON, MA, December 17, 2019 – Eastern Bank, America’s oldest and largest mutual bank, is pleased to announce it has awarded Marolí Licardié, Executive Director of Family & Children’s Service, with a Community Advocacy Award in recognition of her 20+ years leading community-based public health and human service programs that enable families and children to achieve their full potential. Family & Children’s Service (F&CS) has been serving residents of Greater Lynn and surrounding communities since 1885.

Since becoming Executive Director of F&CS in 2006, Marolí has led community education efforts, city-wide initiatives, and local partnerships to serve more families and individuals in times of need. Under her leadership, the 134-year old organization has expanded its footprint beyond Lynn to include neighboring communities such as Chelsea. Prior to F&CS, Marolí was Executive Director for the division of Family Services and Community Health at the Latin American Health Institute in Boston and a developmental educator at Dimock Community Health Center. She currently serves on the Board of Directors of La Vida Scholars in Lynn and Empower Success Corps in Boston, and is a member of the Lynn Nonprofit Business Association and Massachusetts Council of Family Serving Agencies. She is also the recipient of the Cummings Foundation award for Leadership Development for the Next Generation Executive Program at The Partnership, Inc.

Marolí defines her work through collaboration because she knows it is efficient and successful in helping more families and children when they are most vulnerable,” said Nancy Huntington Stager, President and CEO of the Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation. “Her commitment informs how Family & Children’s Service operates and is helping to strengthen the life skills of many families and children across our community.”

Today, F&CS offers a broad array of child- and family-centered social services in Chelsea, Charlestown, East Boston, Lynn, Revere, and Winthrop. It serves more than 5,000 people annually through three primary programs:
-The Early Childhood Family Resource Center—the area's only trilingual center for high-risk, socially vulnerable parents, many of whom are isolated and lack access to vital services. Programs are offered in Spanish, Khmer, and English.

- Home Visiting Services—the emphasis is on improving childhood health and developmental outcomes through education and coaching with young parents. Services are provided to parents, their children, and their families during pregnancy and continuing through the age of five.
- Youth Programs—the focus is on social intervention strategies, including drop-in and after school/summer programs, a Personal Responsibility Education Program, and collaborative efforts with the Lynn Police Department and other community resources to prevent gang-related activities.

The celebration of Eastern’s Community Advocacy Award coincides with the Bank’s focus on enriching early childhood development in its philanthropy and advocacy, and is part of Eastern’s broader strategy to address income inequality and workforce issues by supporting efforts that assist parents and caregivers and prepare children to be ready to learn and succeed. The Community Advocacy Award celebrates local community leaders who give their time and talent to address vital needs throughout Eastern’s New England footprint.

Marolí Licardié commented, “We thank Eastern Bank for its long-term support, and our many local partners for connecting, educating, and informing families and children about resources that keep them on track to live productive lives. We are honored to be recognized with this award.”
