Eastern Bank honors James Doremus with 2017 Community Advocacy Award

CONCORD, November 16, 2017 – Eastern Bank recently honored James Doremus with the bank’s 2017 Community Advocacy Award, which recognizes people who have given their time and talent to address a vital need in their community.

Doremus, Chief Executive Officer of the Concord Family YMCA, was recognized for his devoted efforts of implementing critical support in response to the growing refugee population in Concord, which has the highest immigrant population in the state of New Hampshire.

In recent years, the Concord Family YMCA has introduced initiatives dedicated to helping New American children become acclimated to the Concord area.  Through partnerships with Broken Ground Elementary School and Ascentria Care Alliance, immigrant children were provided transportation so that they could attend Camp Mowkawogan over the summer.  At the day camp, the children made new friends and learned valuable life skills that they did not have access to in the past, such as the skills learned by the Safety Around Water Program.

Doremus, who joined the Concord Y in 2009, has worked in the nonprofit, social services sector for more than thirty years.  He has served on numerous boards, including Riverbend Community Mental Health and Greater Concord Chamber of Commerce, in addition to board and leadership roles connected to the YMCA.

The 2017 Community Advocacy Award is decided by a select group of Eastern Bank executives.  The award aligns with Eastern’s Targeted Grant program each year, which for 2017 the focus is supporting immigrants in our communities.
