Eastern Bank honors Sovanna Pouv with 2017 Community Advocacy Award

DRACUT, November 16, 2017 – Eastern Bank recently honored Sovanna Pouv with the bank’s 2017 Community Advocacy Award, which recognizes people who have given their time and talent to address a vital need in their community.

Pouv, Executive Director of the Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association, was recognized for his commitment to civic engagement and for being a social justice advocate for the Asian American community in the Lowell area.

Pouv was born in a refugee camp in Thailand and moved to Lowell when he was eight years old.  His professional career focuses on improving the lives of the Asian American population that calls Lowell home.  He is passionate about creating communication opportunities within the community and preserving cultural backgrounds.  Pouv serves on many boards such as The Angkor Dance Troupe, Asian Pacific Islanders Civic Action Network, the Greater Lowell Health Alliance, and the Greater Lowell Workforce Development Board, just to name a few.

The Cambodian Mutual Assistance Association is dedicated to improving the quality of life for Cambodian Americans and other disadvantaged minorities in Lowell through educational, cultural, economic and social programs.

The 2017 Community Advocacy Award is decided by a select group of Eastern Bank executives.  The award aligns with Eastern’s Targeted Grant program each year, which for 2017 the focus is supporting immigrants in our communities.
