Eastern Bank Named a Top Place to Work by Boston Globe for 10th Consecutive Year

Announcement comes on the heels of Eastern earning top marks in 2018 Corporate Equality Index for fifth consecutive year

BOSTON (November 17, 2017) Eastern Bank has been named one of the Top Places to Work in Massachusetts in the 10th annual employee-based survey project from The Boston Globe, marking the 10th consecutive year that Eastern has been honored. The Top Places to Work 2017 issue is online at Globe.com/topplaces and will be in The Boston Globe Magazine on November 19.

Top Places to Work recognizes the most admired workplaces in the state voted on by the people who know them the best – their employees. The survey measures employee opinions about their company’s direction, execution, connection, management, work, pay and benefits, and engagement. The employers are placed into one of four groups: small, with 50 to 99 employees; medium, with 100 to 249 workers; large, with 250 to 999; and largest, with 1,000 or more.

Eastern is among only 10 companies to make the list every year since the ranking’s inception.

“Eastern has a 200-year commitment to service, a two-decade commitment to philanthropy, and a terrific and diverse group of supportive colleagues,” said Bob Rivers, Chairman and CEO of Eastern Bank. “To be recognized by The Boston Globe for the 10th consecutive year is a testament to our passionate, creative, and innovative team focused on helping our customers.”

Eastern Bank, the largest and oldest mutual bank in the country, offers its employees a challenging, yet fun workplace environment, a competitive compensation and benefits package that includes a robust pension and 401(k) savings program, and comprehensive health and welfare benefits. Eastern has earned a reputation in Massachusetts for its commitment to its customers and employees, focusing on equal opportunities for all. From focusing on gender pay equity and eliminating barriers that stand between people and prosperity, including women and people of color in the workforce, to supporting veterans and their families, and advocacy for the LGBTQ community, Eastern is committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive and welcoming environment for all employees.

The rankings for the Top Places to Work are based on confidential survey information collected by Energage (formerly WorkplaceDynamics), an independent company specializing in employee engagement and retention, from nearly 75,060 individuals at 334 Massachusetts organizations. The winners share a few key traits, including offering progressive benefits, giving their employees a voice, and encouraging them to have some fun while they’re at it.

“Our winning companies are all in on a secret,” said Katie Johnston, the Globe’s Top Places to Work editor. “Treating employees well isn’t that difficult, and the payoff increased morale, retention, and productivity is huge.”
