Eastern Bank becomes major sponsor of Lowell Devils hockey

BOSTON, Oct. 9, 2009 – Eastern Bank has become a major sponsor of the Lowell Devils hockey team for the 2009-10 American Hockey League season, increasing its support of the New Jersey Devils’ affiliate.

As a result, Eastern Bank’s logo will be prominently displayed on the center ice of the Tsongas Arena, where the Devils play their home games.  Opening night is this Saturday, Oct. 10, when the Devils take on the Worcester Sharks.

“This sponsorship is a perfect way to celebrate our one year anniversary in the Greater Lowell area,” said bank President Robert Rivers.  “We are proud to partner with the Devils and support the team, which reflects our commitment to serving the people and businesses throughout that region.”

Eastern Bank entered the region one year ago through its acquisition of MASSBANK, which had nine locations in the Greater Lowell area.  Since then, Eastern Bank has expanded its hours of operation in the region, while adding business banking, wealth management and insurance services that were not offered by MASSBANK.

“We are extremely excited to help Eastern Bank commemorate its one year anniversary in the Greater Lowell area with this renewed partnership,” said Lowell Devils Executive Director Chris Ciceri.  “It is with the continued support of local businesses like Eastern Bank that the Lowell Devils are able to better serve our fans and entire Lowell community.”

Eastern Bank also sponsored the team in its 2008-09 season.
