Frequently Asked Questions
Eastern Early Pay lets you receive eligible direct deposits up to two days before your scheduled payday. When your employer or benefits provider sends your deposit information to Eastern Bank, we may make the funds available as soon as we receive them from your payer.
Not always. Early access depends on when your payer sends deposit information to Eastern Bank, so some deposits may arrive earlier than others. Early access is not guaranteed, and timing may vary by deposit.
No. Eastern Early Pay is provided at no additional cost.
If you're already signed up for Direct Deposit, then you're all set — Eastern Early Pay is applied automatically. Just set up direct deposit into your Eastern Bank account with your employer or benefits provider, using your Eastern Bank account and routing numbers. There's no separate enrollment required.
Eastern Early Pay is available on eligible Eastern Bank consumer checking, savings and money market accounts with an active, eligible direct deposit. Eligible direct deposits generally include payroll deposits, government benefits such as Social Security, and some other recurring direct deposits.
Deposits not available early include business or corporate payments (such as vendor or reimbursement payments), person-to-person transfers like Zelle or Venmo, wire and internal transfers, and check or cash deposits. We also can't offer early availability on any deposit where we don't receive the payment instructions from your payer ahead of time.
Eastern Early Pay depends on when we receive deposit files from your payer. If your payer sends its information later than usual, your deposit will arrive at your regular scheduled time instead.
Please note: If you split your direct deposit between Eastern Bank and another bank, only the portion coming to Eastern Bank is eligible for early access — the other bank sets its own timing, so that portion won't necessarily arrive early too.
It can take one to two pay periods for a new direct deposit to become active. Once your recurring direct deposit is being sent to Eastern Bank, Eastern Early Pay applies automatically to eligible deposits.
Here are some reasons your deposit might not arrive early. If it doesn't, expect it on your regular scheduled payday.
- Your employer or payer didn't send the deposit information early
- Your direct deposit was recently set up for the first time
- The deposit type isn't eligible, such as a bank-to-bank transfer
- There's a payroll system issue at your payer
- Other account limitations, including standard fraud prevention
Check your account activity in Eastern Bank online banking or the mobile app. You can also set up alerts to notify you when a deposit is received.
