The heart of our culture is rooted in volunteerism

The Eastern Bank Foundation is not just a grant-making organization, we also lend a helping hand when our partners need people power and Eastern Bankers’ unique skills. Our colleagues throughout Eastern Bank volunteer more than 30,000 hours annually to community organizations, creating positive change and transforming lives.

If you are a community organization in need of volunteers, please reach out to us at [email protected].

Here are a few examples of how our volunteers show up in the community:

Citizens Inn
Volunteers play an important role at Citizens Inn helping their mission of working toward ending homelessness and hunger across the North Shore. Our colleagues assist in preparing, serving, and packaging meals. They also serve as dining hall hosts and onsite clean-up.

Boston Citizenship
Our colleagues volunteer at Boston Citizenship Day, New England’s largest citizenship application workshop, where hundreds of lawful immigrants receive free legal assistance to further their journey toward becoming U.S. citizens. Eastern Bankers help applicants interpret and complete the forms needed to become a U.S. citizen and refer them to immigration attorneys as the need arises.

Walk a Mile in Her Shoes
There's an old saying: "You can't really understand another person's experience until you've walked a mile in their shoes.” Our colleagues walk a mile in high heeled shoes to show their support and create awareness about the serious causes, effects and remedies to men's sexualized violence. The one-mile loop in downtown Concord, NH brings thousands of spectators to watch and support this critical cause.

Pride Events
Our colleagues volunteer at local Pride parades. We support and celebrate the legal rights of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, non-binary and queer communities.

Massachusetts Coalition For The Homeless – Build a Bed
Many Eastern teams have built beds for children in low-income families through the Build a Bed program. A study found that 40% of children and adolescents in the U.S. experience sleep insecurity, which is associated with poor academic performance and behavioral issues. We are proud to roll up our sleeves and help.

Celebration of Service Inspiring Our Communities
Our colleagues spend countless hours volunteering during our Celebration of Service from 9/11-11/11. They write cards to military personnel, teachers, firefighters, doctors, nurses and others using our Thank a Community Hero campaign.
